Great atmosphere, charming writing and lovely animation, and the story keeps you wanting to keep playing. The puzzles are enjoyable, make sense and fit with the story. The Victorian London setting is very cool. All in all, if you are a point and click fan, you should go for this straight away, you won't be disappointed! Sydney Emerson joins the pantheon of legendary point and click protagonists!. I'm definitely not feeling "backer's remorse" for contributing to the development of The Slaughter. Alexander Francois has developed a game he should be proud of and while I have some minor quibbles with the game, its quirky characters, intriguing plot and entertaining puzzles have won me over. It contains all the crucial ingredients for a top notch point 'n' click adventure but with an indie game price tag.http://www.choicestgames.com/2016/02/the-slaughter-act-one-review.html. Weird game.... The Slaughter : Act One, developped by one man studio Brainchild is all about a comedic theatrical scripting whispered in a the depraved corners of a Victorian London. Alex Francois, alias the brainedchild, had accomplished the task of raising a bit over £8000 for the developpement of this point-and-click adventure which will leave the players hungry for the Second Act. Tell me something...As a french novellist, I have to admit I'm envious of Francois's talent at scripting a cast. Each character has a set of traits that makes them unique and engaging. Believe it or not, I've grown attached to the main character, Sydney Emerson, who was making me laugh consistently during the opening scene of my adventure. In a trashy dark alleyway of London, as if it was not already funny that the low life investigator gets kicked in the guts for having been in someone else's dream, he keeps punching both his attackers with tasty humourous insults. This dark and polished humour established itself in the beginning and it just never stopped. During my playthrough I would find myself smiling at every line the text has to offer. The only thing that still needs clarification is the multiple dreams in which you find the investigator. I know this is only act one and there is still time to make that connection, but I feel if Francois had not left this part totally to my interpretation, he could have built suspense about it. As a result, by the end of Act One, the dreams left me annoyed that I had to click my way through them. That being said, I did not lose my appetite for Act 2. Also experienced some very minor glitches, but nothing that stalled or ruined the game. The story is well developed and will hopefully develop even more in the following 'Acts'. The characters are wittily observed, interesting and mostly well rounded. The main character is clever and funny without verging too much into smugness or charicature; he's a relatable and well written protagonist. The soundtrack is also fitting and the graphics good.. The mini-game is a bit pointless and annoying, but overall one of the better indie adventures. Looking forward to act two.. While not overly difficult puzzle-wise (which I found refreshing coming off some much more obtuse adventure games), the story and characters are engaging and I'm very cutious to see where the next act goes.
